- KGIRS Chairman calls Prof Usman a “miracle worker”
The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a transparent, accountable and technology-driven revenue system, in line with the Kogi State Government’s ongoing fiscal reforms.
The pledge came on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor’s office at the Senate Building, where the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Dr. Sule Salihu Enehe, led a management delegation from the Service.
Dr. Enehe told the Vice-Chancellor that the visit served a dual purpose: to strengthen the existing relationship between both institutions and to formally congratulate Prof. Usman on his appointment as PAAU’s sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor.
He described the appointment as a fitting recognition of competence, visionary leadership and administrative skill, and said he was confident the university would continue to record significant growth under Prof. Usman’s watch.
Recalling the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure as Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr. Enehe called him “a miracle worker,” pointing to reforms that had restored academic standards, tightened campus security, upgraded infrastructure, improved institutional discipline and rebuilt public trust in the polytechnic. That record, he said, justified the state government’s confidence in placing Prof. Usman at the helm of PAAU — a transformation he noted was already becoming visible at the university.
Dr. Enehe used the visit to outline the state’s broader revenue strategy, explaining that the rollout of Nigeria’s new tax laws alongside Kogi State’s shift from manual tax collection to a fully digital Central Billing System was aimed at closing revenue leakages and strengthening transparency and accountability, ultimately boosting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
An efficient, transparent tax system, he argued, is one of the strongest foundations for a resilient economy — one capable of sustaining investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure and security. He added that Kogi’s tertiary institutions carry significant untapped economic potential, and expressed confidence that PAAU would help lead the state’s push for both educational excellence and socio-economic development through sound revenue management.
In his remarks, Prof. Usman thanked Dr. Enehe and his team for the visit and the goodwill shown to the university. He reaffirmed PAAU’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent financial management, and assured that the institution would continue to align with the state government’s revenue reforms as part of its drive for greater institutional efficiency and sustainable development.
He commended Dr. Enehe’s leadership at KGIRS, noting that the Service’s reforms had strengthened public confidence in the state’s revenue administration, and pointed to the long-standing cordial relationship between the two institutions as a foundation for further collaboration.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of PAAU’s Governing Council, Prof. Mohammed Suleiman Audu, used the occasion to commend both the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, and the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for what he described as their sustained commitment to quality leadership and the transformation of public institutions across the state.
He praised Dr. Enehe as “a square peg in a square hole,” crediting his leadership with building institutions and developing manpower through innovation and professionalism. Prof. Audu appealed for continued collaboration and institutional support from KGIRS to further strengthen PAAU’s growth and development.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the University Bursar, Mr. Abdulsalam Hudu, expressed appreciation to Dr. Enehe and his team for the visit and for the confidence reposed in the university. He reaffirmed the management’s commitment, under Prof. Usman’s leadership, to strengthening ties with KGIRS and ensuring full compliance with the state’s revenue reforms, expressing hope that the partnership would continue to foster transparency and institutional efficiency.
The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs between the two institutions, symbolizing mutual respect and a shared commitment to good governance. The meeting was attended by Principal Officers of the university, Directors, and senior management staff of KGIRS.
