First and foremost, I publicly congratulate the Honourable Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, on his well-deserved appointment into the Federal Executive Council as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
The ongoing gaslighting and endless debates on social media over HND and BSc qualifications will not solve Nigeria’s economic challenges—if anything, they only distract us and worsen the situation.
It is worth noting that respected professionals like Taiwo Oyedele, who began with an HND from Yaba College of Technology, have built outstanding global careers. His profile, including his leadership role at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the world’s leading auditing and taxation firms, shows clearly that competence goes far beyond paper qualifications.

We cannot continue to measure leadership by certificates alone, but by performance and results. What should concern us as Nigerians is not the academic label a leader carries, but the quality of leadership, competence, and the ability to deliver meaningful change.
Nigeria’s economic situation demands focus, innovation, and decisive action. We must channel our energy into holding leaders accountable for performance, not credentials and gives the new Minister change to show case his level of ability and performance espcially now that Nigeria economy requires urgent attention.
Let us move the conversation from certificates to competence, from division to development, and from sentiment to solutions.
Nigeria deserves results.
