Across the towns and villages of Kogi Central, one message is becoming increasingly common: “We do not forget those who stood for us when they had the opportunity to serve.” For many residents, supporting Alhaji Yahaya Bello is not just another political decision, it is a way of expressing gratitude for what they believe his administration delivered to the district during his years as Governor of Kogi State.
The people of Kogi Central are known for valuing loyalty, remembering acts of service, and standing by leaders they believe have positively impacted their communities. Many supporters say this is why they are prepared to mobilize massively behind Yahaya Bello.
For many residents, his administration brought Kogi Central closer to the centre of governance than ever before. They point to the appointment of numerous sons and daughters of the district into key positions, creating opportunities for young people and professionals to contribute to public service. They believe these appointments gave Kogi Central greater visibility and representation in state affairs.
Supporters also point to infrastructure projects, road rehabilitation, public institution upgrades, and investments in schools and healthcare facilities across different parts of the state, including communities in Kogi Central. They see these as practical signs that government reached ordinary people beyond political promises.
To many families, the greatest achievement was not only physical projects but the opportunities created for young people. Thousands of youths were encouraged to participate in governance, public service, entrepreneurship, and community development. Many supporters believe that Yahaya Bello demonstrated confidence in the younger generation by giving them responsibilities that previous administrations rarely entrusted to them.
Women, too, are frequently mentioned by supporters, who argue that his administration promoted greater participation of women in leadership and public appointments. They see this as a deliberate effort to make governance more inclusive.
Many residents also credit his administration with strengthening security efforts, saying improved collaboration with security agencies helped create a more stable environment for farming, business, education, and everyday life in many parts of the state.
For many grassroots supporters, this election is about more than campaign promises. It is about rewarding leadership they believe delivered. Their argument is simple: when a leader remembers the people, the people should also remember the leader.
Across Kogi Central, supporters often say:
“He gave many of our youths opportunities.”
“He carried Kogi Central along in governance.”
“He invested in projects that people can point to.”
“He gave our district a stronger voice in Kogi State.”
“He stood with us, and now it is our turn to stand with him.”
These sentiments, according to his supporters and many residents, explain why many communities are ready to mobilize their families, friends, neighbours, and associates to support him.
To many of these residents, voting for Yahaya Bello is not viewed simply as support for an individual. It is seen as a vote to appreciate leadership they believe brought development, expanded opportunities, strengthened inclusion, and elevated Kogi Central’s place in the political landscape of Kogi State.
Their message is straightforward:
“Gratitude is a virtue. Loyalty deserves recognition. We remember yesterday, we value today, and we are prepared to support the future we believe in.”
