As Muslims in Lokoja observe the holy month of Ramadan, the challenge of accessing clean and potable water has remained a pressing concern in some communities within the ancient confluence town. For many fasting families, the difficulty of sourcing safe drinking water adds to the physical demands of abstaining from food and drink from dawn to sunset.

In response to this need, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has provided drinking water to ease the burden on residents during the sacred period.

Ramadan is not only a month of spiritual reflection and devotion but also a time when acts of kindness and community support take center stage. Water, being essential for breaking the fast, cooking, and maintaining hygiene, becomes even more critical. In areas where public water supply is inconsistent, families often depend on alternative and sometimes unsafe sources.

The intervention by Senator Karimi has therefore come as a timely relief to beneficiaries in Lokoja. Residents expressed appreciation, noting that the support has reduced the stress of searching for water and enabled them to observe their fast with greater comfort and dignity.

Lokoja, as the capital of Kogi State, continues to experience rapid population growth, placing pressure on basic infrastructure, including water supply. While long-term solutions require sustained investment in water facilities and maintenance of boreholes, short-term interventions during periods like Ramadan provide immediate succour to vulnerable households.

Community leaders described the gesture as reflective of the compassion and generosity that define the holy month. They called for sustained collaboration between government representatives, stakeholders and development partners to address water challenges beyond seasonal interventions.

As the Ramadan fast continues, the provision of drinking water in Lokoja stands as a reminder that responsive leadership and simple, practical support can significantly ease the hardship faced by citizens — especially during moments of spiritual commitment and communal reflection.
