ABUJA — Project Kogi West has sounded the alarm over worsening insecurity in Yagba land, where recent killings of citizens and security operatives have deepened fears across communities.

In a statement, the civic pressure group described the crisis as “a painful reminder of the suffering our people continue to face,” noting that a region meant to symbolize peace and progress has instead become overwhelmed by fear and grief.

Residents say the lack of basic infrastructure has compounded their vulnerability. For decades, electricity has been absent in several towns. Roads are in disrepair, and banks have shut down following violent attacks. From Makutu to Ilafin, from Isanlu to Egbe, families have been forced to abandon livelihoods while businesses collapse under the weight of insecurity.

“We cannot continue like this,” said Muyi Fatosa, Convener of Project Kogi West. “The safety of our people should never be treated as a privilege but as a right. Both the Federal Government and the Kogi State Government must act with urgency to protect lives and property. Security must be strengthened along our roads, in our towns, and across our rural settlements.”

Project Kogi West condemned the killings in strong terms and expressed solidarity with grieving families. The group pledged to continue pressing for solutions until the cycle of violence is broken.

“This is the time for action, not silence,” Fatosa added.
