The ongoing primary election across political parties in Kogi state, especially in the western axis, has unveiled what can best be described as an ‘unimaginable gang up’ against politicians from Ijumu local government area.
It all started with the house of reps primaries of the People’s Democratic Party in Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency. The main contender before the D-day was Architect Idris Salman from Ijumu but he lost narrowly to Michael Olobatoke from Kabba after the poll.
The PDP senatorial primaries also saw Dino Melaye from Ijumu losing the ticket to Tajudeen Paul Yusuf from Kabba.
All eyes focused on APC for Ijumu redemption.
Ijumu presented a worthy aspirant for the APC house of reps ticket in the person of Barr. Shola Aiyedogbon (Charvid). But day broke on Friday, the scheduled date for APC primaries, all hell broke loose as it became obvious that some highly placed power brokers are hell bent on annihilating Ijumu from the political space.
It is on record that non-indigenes impersonated Ijumu delegates at the primaries held on Friday. Once again, Ijumu lost out in the most tragic way.
Without an iota of doubt, the gang up against Ijumu is unimaginable.
Sons and daughters of Ijumu kingdom are now watching keenly as events unfold on Saturday when APC will hold senatorial primaries before reaching conclusion on the planned political annihilation against us. Already, the almighty ‘unity list’ being promoted by the powers that be in the state does not favour Ijumu.
We must meet to decide on where to turn after Saturday APC primaries. Our community, political, traditional and religious leaders at home and in diaspora must find a way out of this threat to our political survival.
