Post Flood: Kogi Govt Gives N50,000 to Heads of Families Remaining in Relief Camps

The Kogi State Government has disbursed cash amount of N50,000 to family heads of internally displaced persons who are still remaining in its only relief camps.

The cash assistance to the IDP was made at the winding up ceremony of the only remaining relief camp for those affected by last year’s flood in the State.

About 1million people it would be recalled were rendered homeless during the floods in the State,with about 600,000 sheltered in relief camps.

The amount disbursed Capt Idris Wada, Kogi State Governor disclosed is to assist those living in the camp to rent accommodation and to assist in their relocation to their new homes.

Represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said the State Government is deeply touched by the devastation caused by the flood, prayed never to witness such disaster again.

The amount given as assistance to the victims, is coming few days after the release of N139million to those affected in the nine local government areas of the state.

The State Governor used the occasion to call on citizens of the state to take necessary precautions against future flooding,in view of NIMET’s 2013 rainfall prediction, charged them to clean and clear up drainages.

Capt Wada used the occasion to thank the Federal Government, public spirited individuals and organisations for coming to the aid of those affected during the flood disaster.

The State Governor assured that Government is working round the clock to ensure that the effects of the havoc done by the flood is reduced to the barest minimum,through several intervention schemes in the, Agriculture, roads, education and health sectors among other areas.

Earlier in his speech, the Special Adviser to the state Governor, AVM Gabriel Abdul, commended the seriousness with which the Capt Idris Wada administration is pursuing the rehabilitation of those affected by the flood.

In their separate speeches, Aguda Ashem John Hadiza Ejibo and Hassan Tijani commended the state Government for its assistance since September last year, also called on the state government to even after the winding up of the camps continue to come to their aid as the flood devastation affected negatively their businesses.
