Every season of leadership presents an opportunity for beneficiaries to demonstrate gratitude, loyalty, and a sense of responsibility. This is undoubtedly payback time. Political appointees, stakeholders, beneficiaries of past and present administrations, and indeed all those whose lives have been positively impacted by governance owe it a duty to rise to the occasion and do the needful.

There is an urgent need for sustained public enlightenment to educate the uninformed and remind society of the sacrifices and achievements that have shaped our collective progress. It is often said that to whom much is given, much is expected. This timeless principle places a moral obligation upon beneficiaries not to remain indifferent when the time comes to stand for truth, fairness, and appreciation.

His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, dedicated the better part of his administration to the service of the people of Kogi State. More significantly, his developmental strides, empowerment initiatives, infrastructural interventions, security architecture, youth inclusion policies, and people-oriented programmes left indelible footprints across the state, particularly in Kogi Central. His services transcended political, ethnic, and geographical boundaries, reaching virtually every nook and cranny of the state.

Regrettably, human nature sometimes suffers from selective amnesia. We must not behave like the proverbial chicken that feeds from the ground only to turn around and scatter the very soil that sustained it. Gratitude is the hallmark of noble character, while ingratitude diminishes the dignity of its practitioner.

The moment therefore calls for reflection, sincerity, and collective action. Our conscience should compel us to reciprocate goodwill with goodwill. We must search our hearts, rise above sentiments, rally around His Excellency with clear minds, and support him with honesty, conviction, and unwavering commitment.

History has repeatedly shown that the value of some individuals is not fully appreciated until after their season of active service. By then, society often realizes the magnitude of what it once took for granted. Let us not wait until posterity delivers its verdict before acknowledging genuine contributions. Let us be proactive in recognizing service, defending truth, and preserving worthy legacies.

I remain confident that His Excellency Yahaya Bello will continue to make us proud through his leadership qualities, vision, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of our people. As the saying goes, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. The time to act is now; the time to appreciate is now; and the time to stand for what is right is now.

Posterity rewards those who stand on the side of truth, gratitude, and justice. May we all be counted among them.
