The Movement for Emancipation of Kogi People has predicted mass failure for indigenes of Kogi state writing public examinations this year owing to the care-free attitude of Kogi State government to the strike embarked upon by the organised labour in the state.

In a press statement signed by the association’s chairman, Alhaji Yakubu Asipita and secretary, Mr. Bodunrin Olufemi, they accused the government of abdicating the very responsibility of governance by treating issues concerning the welfare of the people with disdain.

They said teachers in public secondary schools have been out of classrooms for many times as a result of government-occasioned crisis.

According to the statement, students in Kogi schools lost valuable learning time during the screening exercise embarked upon by the government as majority of teachers were at one time or the other in Lokoja trying to sort themselves out with the numerous screening committees of the government that have not yielded any positive result.

The group also noted that thousands of downtrodden people of the state are dying in the towns and villages due to lack of medical care as government hospitals have remained shut because of strike actions.

“The state government’s continued silence or refusal to engage the striking workers in any negotiation is a clear indication that this government is sadistic and derive joy from the pains of the people.

“We call on well-meaning Kogites such as traditional rulers, religious and political leaders to come out of their shell to condemn this incalculable damage the state government is causing to the educational and general well-being of the people of the state.

“It is annoying and a case of luck taken too far that a group of boys in a democracy seized power and continue to torment the entire populace and our traditional rulers and religious leaders suddenly lost their voices,” the statement reads.

The group urged Kogi people to embark on mass action against the state government if it fails to do the needful.
