WAEC Fees: Buba Jibril Pays N2.4m for 140 Students in Lokoja

The Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Buba Jibril has released N2.4 million for the payment of the  May/June 2018 WAEC fee of 140 final year secondary school students  in Lokoja.
The Chairman of the selection committee, Alhaji Tanko Talle while releasing the cheques to the beneficiaries in Lokoja on Thursday said that students were selected from 16 public and private secondary schools in Lokoja Local Government.
He said that each of the students received N17,000 to cover their WAEC fee and other expenses, saying that the payments were made through the principals of their schools.
Talle said that the payment made was between N476,000 and N17,000, saying that the amount paid depended on the number of students selected per school.
Kogi State government had in 2014 abolished free payment of WAEC fees of final year Secondary School students due to massive  fraud associated with the scheme.
He said that the benefitting students  were mostly orphans and children of indigent parents , saying that they were selected from Local Government Secondary School, Kabawa, Muslim Secondary School, Agwan Kura and the Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Lokoja.
Other schools where the students were selected from are Government Girls Secondary Scool, Saraki Noma, Bishop Delise College, Holy Trinity Secondary School, Al -Ansar Secondary School, Muslim Community Secondary School, Lokongoma.
The schools also include Government Day Secondary School, UBE Secondary School, Adankolo, Government Day Secondary School, Adankolo, Government Science Secondary School, Crowther Memorial College, Army Day Secondary School, Al – Hikma Secondary School. Kings and Queens College and Bethel Secondary School.
Telle said that the gesture was in response to  passionate public appeals by  parents to Jibril during the celebration of mauld Nabiy on Dec. 1.
Responding on behalf of the students, the Principal of the Al -Ansar Secondary School, Alhaji Yabagi Gimba thanked Jibril for the gesture , saying that the intervention came at the nick of time.
He congratulated the benefitting students and urged them to come out in flying colors during the examinations so as to serve as an encouragement to their sponsor.
Mr Ahmed Alabi, a parent to one of the benefitting students commended Jibril for coming to their rescue , saying that many parents had been finding it difficult to raise money for the WAEC fee of their children due to economic hardship.
