Wada Plans Massive Overhaul of Primary Education In Kogi State, Commits N5.4billion

…Receives Report of Interim Management Committee

Kogi State government is to commit the sum of N5.4 billion naira towards the development of primary education in the state.

The Kogi state Governor, Captain Idris Wada made this known while receiving the report of the Interim Management Committee of the State Universal Basic Education Board, which was set up by the government to look into the problems faced by Basic Education sector in the state.

According to the Governor, the state will source for N2.7 billion Naira to augment the sum of another N2.7billion naira already in the coffers of the National Universal Basic Education Board earmarked for the development of primary education in the state.

Captain Wada opined that government will soon commence comprehensive re-organization and re- structuring of basic education in the state to over come the challenges that had slow down the progress of the sector.

He commended the committee members for a job well done and assured that some of them would be retained as members of the new substantives education board that will soon be re-constituted.

In his remarks before presentation of the report, the Chairman of the committee, Mr. Steven Akwu told the governor that the report is of two volumes with emphasis on identifying the causes of delay in payment of teachers salaries, non implementation of promotion and payment of leave bonus of tea hers for. Period of four years as well as recommendations on how to over come these challenges.

He appreciated the support of the state National Union of Teachers (NUT) Kogi state chapter and Education Secretaries towards the success of the assignment and expressed delight that teachers salaries have been paid.
