A motorcycle snatching gang has been busted in Adavi local government area of Kogi state.
A leader of the gang was apprehended while trying to snatch a motorcycle from a commercial rider at ECSS Adavi-Eba on Thursday. Residents and men of the vigilante group resisted the criminal and prevent the attempted robbery. His arrest led to the discovery of the gang’s hideout where 7 other members were rounded up.
The gang members are from Kogi and neighbouring Ondo states. One of them, Yakubu Salawu hails from Adavi LGA. Progress Moses and Nasiru Nanahawa are both from Okene LGA while Kabiru Azeez hails from Okehi LGA, all in Kogi state.

The other four gang members; Olajide Emmanuel, Lawal Taiye, Ayomikun Samuel, Adeleye Deji are all from Ondo State.
The gang members were caught with one motorcycle, charms, different types of phones, and drugs from their hideout. They also confessed to have been committing crimes and presently they are under police custody for further investigation.
The Executive Chairman of Adavi LG, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami, who has been following the case since occurrence in the morning to see that the rest of the members were apprehended, commending the security agency for their relentless efforts and synergy with residents in the community.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Jamiu Habeeb, the council chairman urged security agencies in the area to sustain the good work.
“We must not relent in our efforts to keep Adavi Safe for dwellers and minimize crimes in the area for the sake of every citizen of Adavi LGA,” he said.
He further warned and cautioned every youth to be peaceful and avoid constituting nuisance in the community as anyone caught will be dealt with decisively.
He, however, affirmed that as citizens everyone reserve the right to dwell anywhere in the country, but they must be peaceful dwellers at all times wherever we decide to reside.
