The Iyamoye Day celebration for the year 2024 has been scheduled to take place on September 28th. This annual event will be held at the assembly ground of Model Primary School in Iyamoye, Ijumu LGA, Kogi state. The announcement was made by Mr. Olorunmaiye Joel who doubles as the Iyamoye Development Union (IDU) National Secretary General and Chairman, Planning and Organizing Committee for the event. He stated that this year’s celebration will be extraordinary.

Mr. Joel mentioned that several new programmes will be introduced to promote unity. These include a cooking competition featuring our local cuisine, a penalty shootout by the elders of Akus (Quarters), and remarkable display of our cultural heritage, among others.

The national body of IDU led by Alhaji Abubakar Adeyemi Shittu, said that the body is actively engaging with the Obaro in Council, various stakeholders, and interest groups within and outside the community. The event is expected to be grand, with the presence of community members from both within the country and abroad. Notably, prominent figures from society, particularly in Kogi State, as well as captains of industries, political leaders, and representatives from various sectors, will be in attendance for this significant occasion.

The celebration will also showcase the rich cultural traditions of the community, including festivals such as Omoloro, Imole, Olode, and Egungun. Tourist attractions like Awaja Mountain, Oroke Epo, Oluko, and Abodu will be visited during the event. Additionally, there will be other exciting activities such as traditional games and paying homage to the Obaro by different peer groups.

It is anticipated that substantial contributions towards the advancement of the community will not only be acknowledged but will also be accompanied by special recognitions and blessings from the esteemed royal father of the day, HRM, Alh Ibrahim Ademiluyi Momoh, Amuwajoye 1, the Obaro of Iyamoye.

Iyamoye is a historic agricultural community situated in Ijumu LGA, Kogi State in the North Central Zone of Nigeria, encompassed by stunning natural landscapes that have the potential to attract attention and draw international communities to Nigeria. This, undoubtedly, will lead to a significant increase in internally generated revenue (IGR) for governments at all levels if effectively harnessed and developed.
