Hon. Sam Aro, an aspirant in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Kogi West, said on Wednesday he had received a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja on the contest with “profound gratitude.”
He appealed for reconciliation with rival Senator Sunday Karimi, the incumbent.
In a press statement, Aro said he would “commence our campaign in earnest” and described the outcome as a mandate that “is not mine alone.”
^For me, this is not a moment of triumph over anyone,” Aro said. “There is no victor and no vanquished.”
Aro praised the judiciary for upholding the rule of law and due process. He extended what he called “a sincere hand of friendship and brotherhood” to Karimi, saying their differences “have never been personal.”
He also urged his supporters to celebrate with moderation and not to ridicule or provoke Karimi or his backers.
Background
The dispute stems from the APC’s May 18, 2026 primary in Kogi West. Aro sued seeking a declaration that the primary produced him as winner, and that the July 11 submission of Karimi’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was null and void.
Karimi’s camp, for its part, has maintained that his emergence reflected the party’s internal processes. Karimi had earlier emerged as the APC’s consensus aspirant after a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Governor Usman Ododo. (apc aspirant sues party inec over kogi west senatorial primary
The suit was filed at the Federal High Court in Lokoja and later moved to Abuja, with the Lokoja judge saying the transfer was a directive from the Chief Judge that he could not reverse.
Campaign plans
Aro pledged to reach out personally to party leaders, elders, women, youths and supporters across all seven local government areas of the district, saying “no community will be considered too small.” He said his campaign would rest on unity, inclusion and development, and called on APC members to “close ranks” for a “resounding victory” in the 2027 general elections.
Aro said he looked forward to sitting down with Karimi to “rebuild confidence.”
