The Longest Night if My Life; 7 Years Journey Through Grief
Mother, it is exactly 7 years since your transition to eternity from this temporal world but you will forever remain evergreen on my mind.
There is really no word to describe the blow that came in the rare moment my phone rang about 10pm on that fateful day, all I could remember was tears rolling down my cheek. Vividly, that night was the longest night of my life. Alas! It was really an excruciating ordeal.
Mother, you were the truest, dearest, more than a mother to me. You were a precious gift from God, so much beauty, grace, love and patience you possessed. To the world, you might have been one person but to me, you were the world.
Mother, you did not leave millions behind in your account but you left behind enduring legacy worthy of emulation. Who could dispute that you were a virtuous woman? Who does not know of your famed patience and endurance spirit. You were forever teaching us proverbs in English and Igala languages; you rammed into my head, “it is better you go for nothing than to stay for nothing”. You taught me “Nathans parable”. Early life, you helped developed in me a love for reading and passion for academic excellence.
Mother, you heard God’s whisper calling you home, you didn’t want to leave me, I saw you fight until your strength was gone, and could no longer hold on. Finally, you gave your hand to God and slipped away quietly without telling us goodbye. I remember your last advice but never knew it was a goodbye to your beloved last-born.
I will forever salute you Mother because you were all I ever needed in my life. God gave me the best Mom in the world!
You taught me to never give up on my dreams but to persevere no matter how hard the storm may be.
Rest on dearest. Miss you Mom!
