Member representing Dekina-Bassa Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives Honourable Tom Ogijo Zakari has charged the Federal Government on the dualization and rehabilitation of the Lokoja-Abuja highway.
The lawmaker, who spoke in Abuja yesterday, described the road as a death-trap and blamed the situation on the negligence of the contractors handling the project.
According to him, the federal lawmakers from Kogi State have resolved to draw the attention of the Federal Government to the need to complete the road project without further delay.
“The Lokoja-Abuja highway has become a human abattoir. There is no day an accident does not claim lives on this road. The worst scenario is Gwagwalada area where gridlock often makes the road impassable once it is 4.00pm. All this is due to the negligence of the contractors handling the project. We, members of the National Assembly caucus of Kogi State under the leadership of Senator Smart Adeyemi, may soon visit the Minister of Works on this issue.
“We appeal to the Federal Government to come to the aid of the people of Kogi State and other Nigerians plying the road. It is a gateway to the North and South of the country, and if its dualization and rehabilitation work is completed without further delay, the carnage would be reduced”, Zakari said.
