Ideally, the word digitalization is a process of converting from analogue to digital but one cannot fathom what it truly depict in the context of its usage among the components, supporters and apologists of the new direction government in Kogi State. The word digital has suddenly become an initial. As alien as it sounds in an initial purpose; the governor, his deputy, the chief of staff, commissioners and numerous appointees of the self fashioned new direction government has been severally addressed thus.
May I quickly put that while the government is characterized by online melodies rather than physical impacts, it has in her best performance and least depiction of digital set the record straight by a change from the good old days when only “Papas” govern the state while youths engage in thuggery, notice-me attitudes and errand boy services for survival.
Kogites must not take for granted the fact that digital devices and outputs are often very deceiving. Unlike analogues, it polishes surfaces with the best finishing, it remove spots to an unimaginable smoothening, it sparks light beyond eye rays, it modifies voices to melodies ears cannot ignore and it echoes sound beyond the imagination of heart beats. Thus, the adoption of digital initial must be keenly observed before the state is syphoned into a cocoon land.
For the records, the digital government has unarguably received lots of criticism and allegations of inexperienced stewardship due to the fact that key sector appointees are largely youths. In as much as there are clamour for active youths participation in governance, experience they say is the best teacher and a state as complex as Kogi shouldn’t be left in the hands of people who have no traceable records of effective public service cum excellent monetary management capacity prowess.
Hence, the digital idea of youth dominance in power without adequate inclusion of experienced men and hands could be a political deceit aimed at self satisfaction rather than state development. Moreover, so far so good; save few appointees whom have received genuine encomium from the masses, most of the digital opportunists who now parade about in government luxuries showcase their impacts only on the digital atmosphere of social media and sponsored commentaries often aired by “kola” hungry news transmission houses.
Finally, I wish to admonish all the opportunists of the new direction government in truth and pure objectivity that whatever digital ideas they have in stock for the state must be unleashed fast as the global(also digital) world which we live in has made it very easy to document events. Any sincere analysis of the eight months spent out of the stipulated forty eight months of Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s led government in Kogi State will prove that “the new direction self styled digital appointees are so far leading kogi to no fortune” while in the end, it is kogites that will determine the fate of the incumbent government’s continuity.
