Creative writing of all genres is an ardours,  lonely and difficult experience. Most often, training in the art and act of creativity is paramount in achieving artistic or critical fulfilment beyond flair and imagination.

Creative writing requires and demands dedication, commitment and of course a sense of purpose and the conviction that the writer himself or herself has an emotional attachment to his or her work.

This Book…. EBULEJONU is a pure work of art put together by a young writer from Idah, The seat of Igala traditional home to look at the life and death of Ebuléjonu.

History has it that the Legendary EBULEJONU is the first Atta of Igala Kingdom. A woman who’s story has remained untold for a very long time now. she was succeeded by her brother Agana- Poje, the father of Idoko.

The book is a play that looks at the following;

First, it looks at the issue of unity in Igala land and explain how it has affected the growth of the land.

Good Leadership: the play address it to the core, insisting that leadership must be given maximum attention and people must strive to lead at all times and not just the good times only.

Sacrifice: the play also looked at this, in fact the characterization of EBULÉJONU is on sacrifice…ready to go to the extreme because of the people and to stalk all that one has for the tribe.

Culture and Rituals: The play display the rich culture of the Igala people in the songs, dance, the chants, the proverbs,  and the settings, it also unveil Igala Ritual in the way and manner the warriors prepared for the war and EBULÉJONU’s trans and hallucination*

It also look at womanism and feminism in the medieval Igala…and question if such still exist…if it does,why have we not had another female Attah after Ebulejonu.

This Play was written by Unekwu Jacob, a passionate Igala man. He is a Graduate of English and Literary Study from Kogi State University Anyigba and presently serving his father land in far away West of the country. He is from Idah, the ancestral home of the Igala people. He is a creative writer, a Pan Africanist who’s philosophy is the growth of the Black nation.

Recommendation: I am recommending this book to every sons and daughters of Igala land and to history Lovers. Grab a copy and journey through the history of the Igala People.
