According to Dalai Lama~”As people alive today, we must consider future generations: a clean environment is a human right like any other. It is therefore part of our responsibility toward others to ensure that the world we pass on is as healthy, if not healthier, than we found it”. And if the world must be healthy, mankind too must not only be healthy but live happily with our self irrespective of the affiliations the search for sustainability connects us to. It is by so doing and only through this that the world will be truly healthy.

Saturday, the 23rd day of April 2016 is a day that has left its scar on the mind of Idah residents and some unlucky families whose kinsmen were among the blood bath that claim no lesser than twenty lives in the area. The incident which received condemnation from virtually every quarter is up till today still a misery as no judicial panel or security investigation has made any substantial report about the incident less to talk of tracking it’s perpetrators to face the wrath of the law. Whether or not, the families of the bereaved have recovered from the tragedy of this homicides, only God ad posterity will judge those involved.

It is unarguable to say that even though Nigeria as a nation gave constitutional recognition to traditional African religious practices, majority of her citizens prefers to be identified as Muslims or Christians. Both faith whose doctrine lines, teachings and ideal practices placed human blood so sacred that it forbids the killing of fellow man, no matter the gravity of offence committed. However, it is very pathetic that serial killing still occur in our lands so recklessly that one begins to wonder whether or not, human beings still have value for human lives.

Whereas I am yet to ascertain a credible report on the murder of one Mallam Mustapha Atabo popularly known as “Ike” in Idah local government. Exclusive online reports about the incident which took place at the late hours of Thursday 8th September, 2016 has since kept me emotional. Even as I join other sane individuals to condemn this unlawful, anti-religious, uncultured and evil act of transgressions against God and the sanctity of human life, I sincerely extend my condolences to the immediate family of the victim, the good people of Idah local government, Kogi state and humanity in general; may God almighty grant the burdened hearts the fortitude to bear this loss.

The act of Cannibalism is over time a characteristic features of some animal species but it lately beats my imagination how human beings have resorted to such cruel acts. Rather than been our brothers keepers, out of myopia and ungodly influences, at every little quarrelling or misunderstanding of issues; some demons possessed into human incarnates now prefer physical assault rather than amicable resolution or procedural settlements with the laws of the land that will guarantee damage control of life and properties. A development which is completely alien gradually taken over hearts and minds.

The most surprising thing is the fact that even animals that survive on Cannibalism does not predate their own specie. So, how can one justify the surfacing human habit of a no value and regards for human life? Most pathetic is the fact that even at the expense of life, some individuals find it reluctant to mourn deaths not until a glaring cause is x-rayed out. Human minds have become so sentimental and very quick to linking cases to affiliation such as religion, political parties, tribe and cooperate relationship of murder victims while humanity keeps fading away.

Forthwith the foregoing, government at all levels, security agencies, civil society organizations, communities and individuals must intensify consciousness an alarm ratio to activities and suspicions that can cause break down of law and order. Then, strive to sensitize all asunder the dividends of love, peaceful coexistence as well as the advantages our diversities can render rather than causing division among us. God bless us all as we strive to make the world a peaceful place to live with ease!
