Social critic and politician, Comrade Austin Okai has donated solar-powered street lights to boost security, economic and social services to his immediate community, Emewe Opada in Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

Speaking with this reporter, Okai said the gesture was part of his support to his community and by extension Dekina /Bassa federal constituency.

He noted that he accepted defeat in the keenly contested March 2023 general elections as part of communal service.

A visit to Emewe Opada town, a stretch of about 5km, a major suburb in Dekina local government area, saw the heaps of poles and other renewable solar items been mounted by the engineers contracted.

This was against the backdrop of the inability of the federal lawmaker representing the area to donate any social items both in the outgoing year and the new year 2023, only to concentrate them in his ward.

The high capacity solar street lights was expected to serve for over five years life span and subject to repairs and replacement of the bulbs to reduce criminal activities and elements to the barest minimum.

His gesture has formed the crux of his social services overtime and interventions before declaring his intention to run for the last federal House of Representatives in Dekina-Bassa federal constituency.
