The South East Yagba Development Association (SEYDA), Women Wing, has presented start-up grants to 12 women and girls in South East Yagba District in Yagba East local government area of Kogi State.
Speaking at the SEYDA 5th Women’s Day Celebration and Fund Raising of N15 Million for Women/Girls Empowerment Project, the National President of SEYDA (Women Wing), Chief Mrs. Ebulomo Joel, JP, said the group has been committed to raising funds to improve the economic status of the girl-child/women in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Mrs. Joel noted that the socio-cultural association is passionate about improving the lives of members and other beneficiaries through skills acquisition and empowerment, self help projects, preservation of cultural values and traditions, and also promote unity among the women of South East Yagba District.
She congratulated those who benefited from the 2023 Edition of the Empowerment Scheme of the Association, calling on them to use the funds they received for the purpose intended to enable them improve their lives and become employers of Labour on the long run.
She explained that recipients were those who had completed training in Gele Tying, Poki Production (bread buns), Hair Dressing, among others.
Those who completed the training, as initiated by SEYDA, received the sum of N50,000 each, while others received N25,000 each as start up capital.
Chief Ebulomo Joel appreciated donors at the event for their generous contributions, promising that the Association will continue to live up to expectations.
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, in a message to the occasion, noted that when a woman is empowered, the entire family will benefit from it.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, the Governor commended the association for her resilience at intentionally serving as a ladder for women to climb to greater heights, noting that their contributions to societal growth has been unprecedented.
The Governor congratulated beneficiaries of the SEYDA (Women Wing) empowerment scheme, urging them to remain committed to the skills they have acquired.
In his speech, Chairman of the occasion, Ojo Abiodun Titus, said the Women Wing of SEYDA has been committed to fostering peace, unity and oneness in South East Yagba, stressing that the group has as well, contributed much in the empowerment of women and girls in the area.
Ojo Titus commended the leadership of the association for their commitment to the vision/mission of the socio-cultural Group, calling on sons and daughters of Yagba both at home and in the diaspora to support the group to enable her achieve more.
Highlight of the occasion include donation, presentation of SEYDAW Mother of the Year 2023 award to Mrs. Oshanisi Oluranti Tolushe and SEYDAW Daughter of the Year 2023 Award presented to Hajia Sherifat Musa.
Traditional rulers, government appointees, among several others attended the event.
