In view of the fact that agricultural practices is the mainstay of considerable percent of his constituents, Senator Yakubu Oseni, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has pulled a total number of 800 women and youths from Okehi local government area for training and empowerment on agricultural value chains.

The one-day training programme which was held on Monday at Okehi multipurpose town hall Obangede had participants drawn from Ihima, Obangede, Kuroko, Okaito and several other communities in the LGA.

Senator Oseni is of the view that the impact of a value chain extension approach if adopted appropriately, include geometric increase in farm productivity, better post-harvest management and attractive remunerative market among others.

He further argued that to ensure all year round food security, practical and scientific approaches must be adopted in order to properly process farm yields for preservation, thereby making gains from farming activities.

“You’re all full of energies and I believe in your ability to quickly manifest the skills acquired into marketable agricultural ventures for sustained self-reliance and economic prosperity,” the lawmaker said.

The participants who were adequately given start-up capital by the lawmaker were charged to replicate the skills and techniques of modern farming they have learnt in order to boost the economic activities of the local government and the state at large.

Some of the beneficiaries who were visibly excited about the ingenious initiative of Senator Oseni, revealed that the training has enlightened them on quite a number of problems hitherto constraining them from transforming their farming activities into agribusiness using agricultural value chain approach.

They eulogized Senator Oseni for being unique and unprecedented in his approach to empowerment schemes ever since he was elected as representative of the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District.
