In order to ensure food security in line with modern technology, Senator Yakubu Oseni (APC/Kogi Central) has embarked on farmers’ capacity building by training and empowering not less than 400 farmers in his constituency.

The three-day training and empowerment programme which commenced on 19th and ended 21st October had beneficiaries drawn from Okene, Ajaokuta and Ogori Magongo local government areas.

Senator Oseni, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Aliyu Bello and Personal Assistant, Mallam Yusuf Abdulmumin, was of the opinion that training farmers on modern ways of farming and encouraging them with funds will ensure all year round farming activities which will result to food surplus.

He said “This cash and farm inputs are to encourage you since you are not also alienated from the current economic hardship in the country. Your contribution towards nation development through farming activities is recognized and I encourage you all to venture into full fledged commercial farming”.

The lawmaker who admonished young people to embrace modern farming instead of social vices, promised to also deepened his support for various vocational endeavors in his constituency.

Aside cash, the beneficiaries were also given farm inputs like guinea corn, tomato, vegetable, maize, pepper, okro and water melon.

It would be recalled that Senator Yakubu Oseni had earlier this week empowered 500 youths and women with capital to reinvigorate their businesses.

He equally pledged that other local government areas of his constituency would be captured in subsequent phase of his empowerment schemes.
