Traditional rulers in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area have been called upon to collaborate with security agents in the area to ensure peace and security in their domains before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.

The Director in charge of the Local Government (DLG) Alhaji Onuche Musa Mohammed made the call at an expanded security meeting held at Ajaka, recently.

Alhaji Onuche called on the traditional rulers to educate their subjects in all the nooks and crannies of the Local Government on the need for peaceful and orderly conduct in order to avoid crisis.

He called on eligible voters in the area to ensure that they obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) as it is their only weapon to vote for credible leaders of their choice.

Speaking on the occasion, the Aba-Igbo Akpanya, Chief Sylvester Onoja appealed to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consider extending the period for the collection of PVCs so as to enable the people collect their cards.

In their separate speeches, the Police, Directorate of State Security (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps as well as the Navy and Immigration representatives assured that the elections in the area would be conducted under a peaceful and violent free atmosphere.

They however called on the politicians to ensure that all campaigns and rallies should end by 5.30pm, so as to enable them identify trouble makers and also to take necessary action.
