Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has expressed shock over the demise of one of the frontline progressive figures who displayed exemplary zeal for the actualization of civil rule in Nigeria.

Governor Bello, in a statement signed his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Fanwo, described the late Prince Rotimi Yaqub Obadofin as a pragmatic democrat, fiery human right defender and a believer in the core ethos of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group that wrestled power from khakistocrats and returned the nation to representative democracy.

“The late Obadofin was one of the political leaders who fought hard to bring progressive politics to Kogi State which led to the strong showing of the party in the 2015 general election and the eventual takeover of the state by the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 governorship poll.

“The state has lost a gem, an unwavering political colossus, an undying believer in the freedom of man and a humble achiever who was one of the spearheads of the victory of our dear party in all the 2015 elections in Kogi State. Kogi people will continue to remember the departed hero as his motivational spirit will continue to encourage us to take the state to greater heights.

“Our hearts are with the family of the deceased, the people of Gbedde and the entire Kogi people as we take solace in the incontestable power of God to give and to take.
