Poor Power Supply: Light Up Lokoja Group Gives AEDC 1-Week Ultimatum

A group, Light Up Lokoja Group has given the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) a one – week ultimatum to improve power supply to Lokoja or face the wrath of the people.
The Leader of the group, Mr  Suleiman Isiyak gave the ultimatum in Lokoja on Wednesday during a peace meeting brokered by the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi between the group and the AEDC.
He said that the residents will not fold their arms and allow the AEDC to continue to ruin the scanty small and medium scale businesses in Lokoja due to poor power supply.
Isiyak  said the indigenes of the town have been losing their jobs as a result of poor power supply , saying that the health of the people had also been badly affected .
The Leader charged the management of the AEDC to keep to its promise of increasing power supply to Lokoja from the present average of five – hour supply to 14-hour supply per day or face the wrath of the people.

“Out future is at stake. Indigenes of Lokoja have become major victims of this poor power supply since the advent of Buhari Administration .
“We are giving the AEDC one week from today to implement the agreement on 14- hour supply. Failure to do this will force the residents press home their demand through massive street protests,” he said.
The Light Up Lokoja Group which has been at the forefront of agitation of improved power supply to Lokoja attributed the action of AEDC to wickedness and deliberate action of sabotage.

It then informed security agencies in the state of its intention to embark on street protests and indefinite occupation of the business headquarters of the AEDC in Lokoja.
Sensing danger, the Maigari quickly intervene and summoned a peace meeting between the group and management of the AEDC.
Also speaking at the meeting which was held at the palace of Maigari, the Head, Corporate Communication of AEDC,
Mr Bode Fadipe promised that his company will keep to the terms of agreement.
He admitted that the demand of the group was legitimate , saying that the AEDC  ” knows and appreciates the
situation of power supply in Lokoja.”

He was full of gratitude to the monarch for intervening in the matter and resolving it amicably.
Fadipe attended the meeting alongside some top officials of the company commended the the youths for their peaceful conduct and respect for the constituted authorities.
The  Maigari while commenting on the need to resolve the matter amicably called on the AEDC to immediately begin the implementation of the 14-hour of electricity supply to Lokoja.
He admonished the company to introduce human face into its services , saying that the residents of the town had suffered injustice and inhuman treatment since 2015 from AEDC.

” The poor power supply to the city has created a lot of health and security  problems for the residents while businesses have either crumbled or in bad shape,” he said.
The monarch advised members of the group to forgo their demand for 18-hour supply for now, saying that the demand was not realizable going by the explanations of AEDC.
