The leadership of Ukomu Igala Organisation (UIO) Worldwide has issued a stern advisory to the people of Kogi East ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging political actors to uphold peace, constitutional freedoms, and collective dignity while shunning political violence and factional exploitation.

In a press statement signed by the National Leader of the organisation, Major General James Alilu Ataguba (rtd), the apex social-cultural body cautioned against the recent surge in political intolerance and criminal force across the senatorial district. The group specifically referenced recent violent clashes in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area, warning that such acts must not be allowed to set a dangerous precedent in Igala land.

General Ataguba emphasised that political association remains a constitutionally guaranteed right that must be exercised free of intimidation, threats, or harassment. He stressed that politics in Kogi East must strictly remain a contest of superior ideas, vision, and proven track records rather than a display of raw criminal force.

Addressing the issue of political endorsements, the UIO boss warned individuals and political groups to desist from using the collective identity of Kogi East, the Igala nation, or the Bassa people to legitimise personal or partisan ambitions. He stated that no single actor or faction possesses the authority to speak for the entire ethnic group without broad, legitimate consultations, warning against sacrificing the region’s collective bargaining power for short-term political relevance.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the zone, the UIO noted that Kogi East boasts over one million registered voters and will not serve as a political pawn for any interest group. To ensure that the region’s voting strength translates into concrete socio-economic development, the organisation announced plans to constitute a non-partisan team of trusted leaders and elders to systematically evaluate candidates and interrogate their manifestos. Representatives of presidential contenders will also be invited to present their proposals directly to the panel.

General Ataguba called on all sons and daughters of Kogi East to remain united and deliberate despite differing political affiliations, reminding them that while political choices may vary, the socio-economic destiny and heritage of the region remain inextricably bound together.
