- Opposition parties lose ground in Ogidi ahead of 2027 polls
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State received a political boost in Ogidi, Ijumu Local Government Area, after about 500 members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the ruling party. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Women Leader, Mrs. Ebunlola Abolarin, also joined them.
Ogidi is the hometown of the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna.
The defectors declared their intention to join the APC at an empowerment programme organised by Haruna in the community. The event drew political attention, with party supporters describing it as a significant moment for the APC in Ogidi.

The new members said they were willing to identify with the APC and take part in its activities at the grassroots.
Receiving them, the APC Zonal Chairman, Hon. Ayo Emmanuel, welcomed the defectors and assured them that the party is committed to inclusiveness and a sense of belonging for all members, regardless of when they joined.
Emmanuel urged them to make their membership meaningful by staying loyal, committed and consistent, and by working with existing members to strengthen the party.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Abolarin pledged their loyalty and commitment to the APC. She assured the party leadership that they were ready to give their full support and contribute to its activities.
The defections come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
