I have watched with great concern and fear the unfolding event of the recall of Senator Dino Melaye from the Senate and I begin to wonder if it is actually targeted at getting Dino down the cliff and not a war in disguise against the people that he represents.
Dino Melaye, with his way and manner of doing business in the Senate (perhaps, his notoriety) may not be an ideal representative of the people of Kogi Western Senatorial District but evidently, he is the lone voice in the wilderness of pain and sorrow caused by a government that have become so callous and oppressive both at national and state levels.
I feel so sorry for the people of Okun land in particular and their classes of traditional, political and religious leaders who do not only sit and watch the whole drama unfold without any form of resistance or condemnation but tacitly and surreptitiously support the move because of greed, local politics and for the least, fear of intimidation.
What goes round would surely come round some day. If Dino is truly a disgrace (as some would claim), when has it become the practice of Okun People to throw the baby out with the bath water? Indeed when and where did the people meet to decide that Dino must come back home from the Senate? What are his known offences that no politician commits today?
How has Dino become so harmful than the tyrants that subject the masses to hunger, starvation and blood bath as a result of permissive and motivated killings of innocent people all over the land? Is the illegal arrest and intimidation of Dino not an attempt to encroach on the social and political sphere of the people of Okunland and Kogi West ahead of future elections?
Unfortunately, this conspiracy again Dino cannot fester without the malice and betrayal of his own people who may have lost their true sense of purpose and collectiveness. This same ‘bad Dino’ as widely believed today has for many times and in many ways contributed to the social and physical developments of Okunland.
At different times, he had been invited to different social and community functions for supports and donations. So if truly he is a bad representative that must be recalled home, why did his own people have to steal from him first? Is it to ruin him completely?
Why is this conspiracy of silence so loud and clear all over Okunland and Kogi West that Dino represents? As the whole drama plays out, one cannot but wait to see how this conspiracy against Dino would be demonstrated on Saturday when the electoral process for his recall would be staged with or without the cooperation of the people of Okunland and the entire Kogi West.
It is true that Dino may have his flaws, however, he can never be recalled twice.
After he may have been pulled down and the jubilation is over, let us wait and see if that would translate to payment of salaries and arrears of workers and pensioners in Kogi State that have not been paid for months or stop the incessant killings in Nigeria. Yes, he could be playing politics! But all the same, if what he presently stands for is not true, despite his culpability of now and before, those conspiring against him would not be bothering themselves to seek for his fall or get rid of him by all means.
Today, as our country revisits the dark ages, the Dino phenomenon is a sign of the days to come when the contributions of Federal and State might would not only scare the reprobate but equally devastate the innocent. It is the turn of Dino today but soon or later, ours would come.
Thus, anyone who would participate in the recall of Dino directly or indirectly would one day seek for truth and justice but may seek in vain. But for me, for the sake of the truth, I stand for Dino.
