“Operate Within Government Rules and Regulation” – Awoniyi Charges Flood Victims

Internally displaced persons living in camps across the nine Local government Areas of Kogi State have been told to operate within government rules and regulation.

The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, who represented Capt. Idris Wada, while on a spot check at Adankolo camp in Lokoja, said, government can only achieve its post flood management plan if IDP’s key into guidelines of the government.

While assuring that the State Government will not abandoned the victims, efforts, the Deputy Governor maintained is on going to resolve all matters of concern affecting their resettlement.

Awoniyi, explained that all cash donations so far received by the government on behalf of the people is largely intact, assuring that the administration is bent on delivering every promise made to the displaced persons, only if they remain patient.

The Deputy Governor  said towards ensuring that relief materials get to those in need and the process of relocating them from primary schools so that pupils can resume normal academic session, he added is been worked out by the State Government.

Awoniyi, called on the displaced persons to ensure normalcy in camps, adding that their plight which is not caused by any individual has made the government to bend backward and to always listen to every single complain made by the displaced persons.

The Deputy Governor, while accepting that the IDP’s are duty bound to operate within democratic norms, commended some of the victims who had taken up the initiatives to leave camps after discussing with government on how to be resettled.

In a couple of days, the State Government, Awoniyi, noted will relocate those displaced to Ajaokuta and other accommodation acquired by the State Government, so that schools can re-open, added that plans are on for extensive renovation work on schools used by those displaced.

Awoniyi, called on the displaced persons to shun spreading unfounded rumours, and stop casting aspersion on the integrity of law enforcement agencies and the State Government.

While describing Adankolo camp as the most privileged in the State having hosted the President, Senate President, Alhaji Aliko Dangote,Ministers and other top personalities across the country, said government is mindful of the fact that people are not comfortable with their present condition in the camps, however said the government is willing to do more in ensuring that their lives return to normalcy, called on those displaced to show appreciation as the government is doing the best it can.

Earlier in their speeches, Alhaji Yabagi Bologi, Commissioner of Information and Alice Ogedengbe, Acting General Manager, State Emergency Management Agency, called on the people to remain calm as government is doing everything possible to alleviate their sufferings only if they remain, peaceful and law abiding.
