Hon. Musa Jimoh Omiata, member representing Yagba East State Constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly moved a Motion titled, ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance Calling on Kogi State Government to Rehabilitate Oyi Bridge, along Takete-Ijowa Road in Yagba East Local Government Area’ during plenary on Tuesday.

The motion reads;

“Oyi Bridge along Itakete-Ijowa road is one of the major bridges in Yagba East Local Government Area. The bridge connects Isanlu, the headquarter of the Local Government Area to the South East communities with several towns and villages such as; Igbagun, Alu, Oranre, Ponyan, Ejuku, Jege, Itakete, etc…

“For a long period of time, this bridge has served a great purpose by linking these communities together, hence making the transportation of goods and services possible between them.

“Recently, the bridge has been badly damaged and at the point of collapse.

“Whereas the collapse of this bridge will amount to a halt in transportation, movement of people as well as exchange of goods and service between the communities. It will be colossal loss to farmers who solely depend on the bridge to transport their commodities to the headquarters of the Local Government and beyond. The aggregate of these would amount to total collapse of socioeconomic activities in the constituency.

“Right Honourable Speaker and well respected colleagues, if urgent measures are not taken to prevent the bridge from collapsing, the implications could claim both lives and properties of indigenes and other innocent lives plying the said bridge.

Prayers:
1. That the State Government direct the Ministry of works through the Kogi State Road Maintenance Agency to provide a sustainable palliative measure to alleviate the fear of the bridge users.

2. That this honourable house charge the House Committee on works to visit the said bridge for on-the-spot assessment and give report/recommendations to this Honourable House.

Hon. Haruna Idoko Musa of Idah State Constituency while seconding motion noted that rehabilitating the bridge will help avert danger and enhance Economic activities of the community.

Hon. Obaro Pedro of Mopamuro State Constituency supported the motion, noted that bridge was constructed to ease transportation of persons, goods and services that rehabilitating it will make life easier for the people.

The Speaker while ruling passed a resolution that the Government should intervene through Ministry of Works and State Road Maintenance Agency.
