It is appalling that nobody can envisage the exact date that the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello would conduct elections into the 21 local governments in the state.
Despite the uncertainty, there are aspirants, especially on the platform of the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC). Many aspirants are vigorously jostling for the position of chairmanship in their various Local governments to takeover from the administrators appointed by Governor Yahaya Bello.
It is obvious that there are two formidable political parties in Lokoja Local Government which are the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the remnant of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Assessing some of the political aspirants vying for Lokoja LGA chairmanship position indicated that some are mere noise makers without political preparation to face the task of becoming a council chairman, while few are more focused and set their machinery in motion.
Among them is the indefatigable and top contender, Hon Tijjani Shehu Bin-Ebaiya who aspiring on the platform of All Progressive Congress, APC.
Hon Ebaiya, popularly known and call by his teeming supporters as “BEST” has since setup his formidable media team.
Speaking in an interview with reporters at the end of his visit to the party executives of his ward, Shehu explained that he is in the race to give back to the community what the community did for him; “we are not in this contest to accumulate wealth, as our aim is to contribute our quota to development of Lokoja Local Government Area”.
Answering questions on the issues of diaspora politicians which some people are using as cheap campaign, hear what Ebaiya said:
“It is the good people of Lokoja that will decide. As far as we are concerned, we will remain focused as no amount of cheap campaign would deter us from moving Lokoja Local Government Area to the highest pedestal of development”, he said.
While Hon Tijjani Bin-Ebaiya is criss – crossing the length and breath of Lokoja LGA, seeking for our peoples mandate, one of the aspirant (names withheld) based in Lokoja intended to contest for the office of the chairmanship without adequate preparation rather waiting for one unpopular politician to anoint him into the office.
To the extent that some school of thought assumes that it is only the godfather, who despite of his decimal performance has the power to anoint him which made the lazy aspirant to relax waiting for the manna to fall from the sky.
While Some of the aspirants are mere facebook campaigners without real preparation for the Lokoja LGA election, Hon Bin-ebaiya has been acknowledged and adjudged to be the best by over 75% of the good people of Lokoja Local Government Area.
