The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said at the weekend that it recently arrested and prosecuted seven persons who were caught vandalizing pipelines in Kogi State.
Acting commandant of NSCDC in Kogi State, Oguntuashe Kingsley, stated this during the 2013 international Civil Defence Organisation celebration in Lokoja.
He said the corps has been able to reduce the spate of vandalism, especially oil pipelines in the state, attributing the success to surveillance, arrest and prosecution of offenders.
The commandant warned those operating illegal security outfits to desist from it, saying the corps is determined to protect the state against all illegal activities.
He added that despite the achievements recorded, the corps lacked adequate equipment and logistics, enough personnel as well as office accommodation at both the state and local government level, and appealed for assistance from the government.
In his speech, chairman of the occasion, Ambassador Umar Sule Gegu, appealed to the government to assist the corps in the area of logistic and welfare to be able to carry out their duties effectively.
