Must-Read Poem: The Servitude

How can we be moving in chains and clamouring for change?
We’re like the ancient slaves working in the path of freedom
But never ready to let go of the shackles
Enslaved!

Merchandisers wallowing in laughter.
The merchandisers are the leaders
Trading on the strength of the youth
In guise of making us leaders of tomorrow
But tomorrow comes with another Bubu

As we battle for survival
We loiter in fetters till eternity rolls.
We call slavery sister
Freedom a reality in misery
When will the liberation come?

Alas! I see a generation of youths
Coming together like the unison of ants ready for war
Our unity is the weapon of warfare
The warfare is in our voice
Our voice is the victory.

The poet, Arogbonlo Israel is dedicating this piece to the ongoing campaign against police brutality in Nigeria.
