Lokoja Local Government Caretaker Chairman Distributes Quarterly Palliatives

…assures the public of Ododo’s long term plans for agricultural development in Kogi State.

The Caretaker Transition Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu has today officially distributed of 2024 first quarterly food palliatives to the people of Lokoja Local Government Area.

The Caretaker Chairman, while addressing stakeholders in the Local Government Secretariat, stated that the Executive Governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo has mandated all Local Governments to ensure that the palliatives is not distributed along party, ethnic or religious lines. He thanked the people of Lokoja for the patience and trust in the government despite the challenges.

The Chairman appealed to the stakeholders to ensure that the palliatives reach the vulnerable and other targeted beneficiaries across the 10 Wards in Lokoja Local Government.

“While this intervention continues every quarter, the government is making plans to ensure that Kogi produces enough food,” he added.

“The Administration of Alhaji Ododo is working on long term measures for agricultural development especially in areas of livestock and crop production to guarantee food security in Kogi State through a mix of commercial and subsistence farming in all parts of the state”.

Speaking at the flag off, both the Member representing Lokoja 1 State Constituency, Hon. Bin Ebaiya Shehu Tijjani and the Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk enjoined the stakeholders to carry out the mandate of the Governor to the latter, promising to follow up with the distribution to the grassroot.

Also present at the event were the Local Government Party Chairman, Alhaji Maikudi Bature, Kogi State APC Youth Leader, Hon. Muhammed U Muhammadu and a host of other stakeholders from the 10 wards of Lokoja.

Groups that benefited from the palliatives includes the Staff of the Lokoja Local Government, LGEA Teachers and Non-Academic Staff, Traditional Councils (Lokoja, Oworo, Eggan, Kakanda and Kupa), League of Imams, Council of Ulama, CAN Lokoja Chapter, NURTW, Okada and Keke Unions, Police Divisions, Civil Defence, EPA, Women groups etc, and for the first time ever, Vigilante Groups and Igbo community were also consider in the Local Government, according the DSO and representative of Igbo Community, Hon. Paul Obesole respectively.

Recall the state Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo on Tuesday, 20th February during the flag off of first quarter 2024 food palliative distribution and incentive said the commodity is meant for the indigent and vulnerable people of Kogi State to tackle the effect of the pressing food security and to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship.
