Lokoja-Kogi: SDP Chieftain, Hon. Sani Idakwo Philips Describes Bye-Election as a Shame

A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, Hon. Sani Idakwo Philips has described the just concluded Lokoja-Kogi Federal House of Representatives bye-election as a shame and an insult to the institution of democracy worldwide.

Addressing newsmen in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state yesterday, Hon. Sani Idakwo Philips stated that his party prepared for democratic elections but unknown to it, the ruling party in the state prepared for war.

Hon. Sani Idakwo Philips expressed his disappointment at the security agencies who were suppose to provide security for the electorate but rather failed to do so as miscreants and hired thugs had a field day intimidating and harassing the electorates.

Describing the elections as a new low in Nigeria’s democratic journey, Idakwo expresses deep concerns at the level of violence unleashed on innocent electorate who came out to exercise their right to vote.

Hon. Sani Idakwo Philips urged the electorate not to be deterred by agents of poverty and destruction in the state as well organized measures would be taken by the SDP in the coming elections.

Idakwo warns that nobody has a “monopoly of violence and the SDP is not also short of ideas on how to win elections at all cost”.

Hon. Sani idakwo Philips hinted that his party the SDP may take legal actions to reclaiming its mandate from those who stole it by the use of crude force, intimidation and vote buying.
