Light Up Movement Gets New Leadership

Comrade Zakari Iliyasu has been confirmed new chairman of Light Up Movement at an extraordinary session and Congress of the body in Lokoja on Sunday.

Comrade Iliyasu was the publicity secretary of the body in the immediate past leadership but had a taste of chairmanship when he led the interim body that culminated in the setting up of the electioneering process.

The immediate past Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed maintained his position as he was overwhelmingly nominated and adopted by the entire members of the executive during the congress.

Yabagi has served in that capacity since the formal setting up of the body in 2017 as he served as secretary under the previous administration, the interim executive and the one just inaugurated.ย 

Also elected at Sunday’s Congress was Comrade Abdullahi Adamu who emerged Vice Chairman, also a position he held under the immediate past administration.

Other members of the newly formed executive were Comrade Henry Folaranmi Francis (Financial Secretary); Hon Muhammad Bature (Treasurer); Comrade Kerry Haruna (Publicity Secretary); and Comrade Michael Achor Joshua (Auditor).

Also elected during the Congress was Candid Ibrahim Nuhu (Organising Secretary); James Lawal (Assistant Secretary) while Comrade Bala Shaban, Suleiman Isiyak and Mallam Abubakar Gimba emerged as ex-officio members to the executive.

Speaking on behalf of the newly constitutes leadership, the chairman, Comrade Iliyasu Zakari thanked members and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in them and assured of his determination to take the movement to the next level.

He said the new personalities at the helm of affairs were people of proven integrity with cognate ability to deliver the goods and assured all stakeholders including the AEDC of his determination to run an inclusive tenure.

Comrade Iliyasu promised to chart a positive course for the body by ensuring open, honest and temperate discussions on all issues relating to problems of power supply and other matters involving the movement.
While further assuring all stakeholders of his commitment to ensure he provided a leadership they could be proud of, the new chairman also called on them to constructively criticise the body as he would be open to corrections at all times to move the body forward.
