The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over unchecked diversion of sensitive material meant for tomorrow’s local government elections in Kogi state.

The state Deputy Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Kabir, made this known while speaking with our reporter on Friday evening in Lokoja.

He alleged that electoral officers for December 12 council polls left the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) office in company of the respective chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP spokesman said he has been at the KOSIEC head office in Lokoja since 10am in the morning till around 7pm and noted with dismay that the ruling is bent on circumventing the electoral process.

“The Electoral officers recruited by KOSIEC all APC supporters. Most of them are friends, personal assistants and surrogates of APC chairmanship candidates of the local government they are deployed to.

“The Electoral officers came to KOSIEC office today in well known APC candidates vehicles. They stormed this place with thugs and moved sensitive election materials to unknown locations,” he said.

Kabir stated that PDP is at alert and monitoring activities of the electoral commission and the ruling party.

He insisted that with a level playing ground, PDP will win most of the chairmanship and councillorship seats at the polls.

He called on the Mamman Eri-led KOSIEC to give account of all sensitive materials dispatched to various local government councils.

In a statement issued by KOSIEC’s commissioner in charge of media and publicity, Yakubu Chogudo, on Friday, the commission stated that materials were released in the full glare of party agents, representatives of Inter- Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and security agents.

He noted that while supervising the release of the materials and speaking on their safety, the Chairman of KOSIEC, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri said police escorts would accompany the materials to their various destinations.

He further explained that they would be sorted out and sent to the various wards and polling units of the Councils afterwards.

He urged the electorates to remain peaceful throughout the election period, saying without peace the desired result would not be achieved.
