Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has announced plans, through his foundation, to rehabilitate the Ogbe–Ijowa Ekiti and Jege–Ogbom–Ogga–Omi–Igbaruku–Okeri road network, citing the link between dilapidated roads and insecurity in the area.

Speaking during a community engagement in Yagba, where he continued the disbursement of the ₦10 million promised to seven additional communities—Ogbe, Ogbom, Ogga, Omi, Odo-Ara, Igbaruku-Okeri, and Iyamarin-Okeri—in Yagba West Federal Constituency.

Abejide said the intervention is part of his ongoing commitment to bring development closer to the people and improve livelihoods across the constituency.

“The lack of good roads in this axis has made movement difficult and created safe havens for criminal elements,” he said.

“When roads are bad, security agencies cannot respond quickly, farmers cannot move their produce, and residents live in fear. Fixing these roads is fixing part of the security problem.”

He said the Ogbe–Ijowa Ekiti road connects Kogi and Ekiti States and serves as a key route for farmers and traders.

He further noted that the Jege–Ogbom–Ogga–Omi–Igbaruku–Okeri road serves as the shortest route from the Oke-Oyi axis to Yagba West, stressing that It links several communities within the two local government areas.

He said both routes have been in a state of disrepair for years, making travel risky, especially during the rainy season.

Abejide stated that his engineers will be mobilized to assess the roads, first to make them motorable so that people can have access roads and reduced travel hours.

He added that the 20-kilometer road rehabilitation will complement his recent empowerment initiative, where ₦10 million was presented to seven additional communities in the federal constituency for grassroots development projects.

Community leaders at the meeting welcomed the announcement, describing it as a timely intervention. They pledged their support for the project and for Abejide’s efforts to secure a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the constituency.

“This is the first time we are seeing this level of direct intervention on our roads,” said one community leader. “Good roads will open up our communities and give our people hope.”

Abejide said the projects will stand as part of his legacy of people-oriented leadership in Yagba Federal Constituency.

The program will move to other communities within Yagba West and Yagba East Federal Constituency to continue the disbursement.
