My aspiration is born out of the need to move the journalism profession to the next level of development.
These were the words of Abu Michael, leading contender for the Kogi State NUJ Chairmanship seat in the March 4th, 2017 election shortly after he collected his nomination form to vie form and while unveiling his campaign Director General, Mr. Dominic Akpa.
Abu said his desire to vie for the office of the NUJ Chairmanship is borne out of his passion to contribute in no small measure to the growth of the Union.
He said discipline, professionalism through training and retraining, improving the infrastructure in the NUJ complex, will be the hallmark of his leadership.
Abu said if elected, through partnership he will build in the first six months, a befitting library in the complex.
He noted that if elected he will be a bridge between all practicing journalists in the State, called on practitioners in the State to elect the next chairman of the Union based on competence and ability to move the Union forward.
Abu described Dominic Akpa as a veteran whose integrity knows no bound. Akpa said his acceptance to drive Abu’s campaign is aimed towards improved NUJ. He commended him for his bold initiative at bequeathing a new journalism leadership to the people.
In a remarks, Dominic Akpa, described the aspirant as the best thing that has happened to the NUJ, urging members of the Union to choose a leader that will move the union forward.
The DG described Mike Abu’s integrity, intellectual capacity and bridge building capabilities as what the union needs in the trying time of the country.
