At the rally held in Ibaji, Kogi state, on 12th October, 2015, Prince Abubakar Audu, the APC gubernatorial candidate, lamented the poor state of infrastructure and promised to declare a state of emergency on infrastructural development in the area and in the whole of the state. He also welcomed decampees from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In his speech, Hon. Simon Achuba, a leader who formally decamped to the APC, stated that: “We are leaving PDP because all their promises to the people have turned out to be nothing but calculated lies”, and further stated that the people could no longer continue to support the party and the incumbent governor, Captain Idris Wada, for this reason. He also described the massive turnout at the rally and the hundreds of decampees received as “a total removal of the PDP” from the local government. Others also commented on the infrastructural development which was witnessed during Audu’s previous tenure.
Thousands of people have decamped from the PDP to the APC in what analysts have described as a “mass exodus which will, no doubt, weaken the PDP and severely impair their chances of winning the November 21 gubernatorial election in Kogi state.”
