The attention of Sen. Dino Melaye Campaign Organization has been drawn to a reported statement credited to Kingsley Fanwo, DG, Publicity and Strategy to Kogi State Governor who is also the Deputy Chairman of the  Media and Publicity Committee of Presidential Campaign Council in Kogi State, on the preferred candidate of choice for the Senate seat in Kogi West.

Of interest is the caption of the report which is an indication that Kogi State government will stop at nothing to get its candidate elected. This is so because, coming from the official spokesperson of the Governor of the State, it is an indication of the desperation on the part of Kingsley Fanwo and his principal in the bid to force a particular person on the people.

Lest Kingsley Fanwo forgets, he should be reminded that this is a democracy wherein power belongs to the people who will decide through their votes who to represent them in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.

It is vital to ask what can be more shameful than eight years of abysmal representation experienced by the people of Kogi West when the same Sen. Smart Adeyemi held the people’s mandate between 2007 and 2015.

No wonder the people rejected and voted out the same person Kingsley Fanwo and his masters in Lugard House are desperately trying to foist on the people in 2015.

The shame of Kogites is the inept and government of no direction the people have endured since 2016.

The shame of Kogites is putting up with a government that has compounded their woes with several months of unpaid salaries and pensions to civil servants and retirees.

The shame of Kogites is the monumental fraud in governance that has stripped the people of their dignity and clothed majority in helplessness.

The shame of Kogites is lack of infrastructural development despite the enormous resources available to the state courtesy of several bailouts and tranches of Paris Club refund.

Sen. Dino Melaye remain the voice of the people of Kogi West against impunity, sharp practices to give hope to the people.

This he has done at the risk of personal convenience and death. The people of Kogi West are too enlightened to be deceived with sweet nothing by those responsible for their pain and agony.

Sen. Dino Melaye has posted sterling performance in legislative duties and execution of projects with positive impact in three and a half years; a feat unmatched by the government candidate, who had the opportunity for eight years.

No amount of denigration will change the overwhelming support Sen. Dino Melaye enjoys among the people of Kogi West.

We can understand the fear of defeat in Kingsley Fanwo’s diatribes because it will directly determine his economic and political future.

The ranking status narrative is an old song West Kogites heard in 2015 that ended in defeat for the purveyor of that line of thought and his supporters.

Having experienced in just a little over three years, outstanding legislative duties from Sen. Dino Melaye, the people of Kogi West are resolute to return him to the Senate despite the attempt to keep him out of circulation; which has obviously boomeranged considering the increased support for Sen. Dino Melaye.

We wish to remind Kogi State government that election is a political contest and not war with majority of the people as determinants of the winner.

Under no circumstances should the APC-led administration in the State go about it as a door or die affair.

We implore the electorate in Kogi West to remain steadfast in the face of harassment, intimidation and violence at the behest of the government in Kogi State.

Our votes shall count and those from outside Kogi West insisting on imposing their lackeys on our people will understand the futility in trying to appropriate and trample on the aspirations of the people.

Signed:

Hon. Bawa Yakubu
