Executive secretary, Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Malam Nuhu Ahmed has warned contractors under its supervision to work to specification or risk termination of their contracts, saying the state government would blacklist any contractor working with the board that executed shoddy job.
The SUBEB boss gave the warning yesterday in Lokoja during the bidding process for the construction of blocks of classrooms, boreholes, provision of furniture and renovation of dilapidated buildings across primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
According to him, contractors who may been successful from the on-going open bidding should be able to do a quality job because an enabling environment has be provided, adding that whoever that did not meet the project specification would be blacklisted and would forfeit his money to the state.
Ahmed added that they had set up a monitoring committee comprising the state officials, Federal Auditor General as well as officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to ensure that the contractors met the job specifications.
“The state has contributed N852million while the federal government also contributed N852 million for the projects. We decided to embark on open bidding because the state governor, Idris Wada believes in transparency and due process,” he said.
However, he appealed to the contractors not to compromise quality in the course of executing the contracts, saying that how they execute the project would determine whether they would continue to work with the board or not.
