Kogi Speaker Bags Kwara NUJ Award of Honour on Youth Empowerment

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole has bagged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), correspndents chapel, 2020 award on youth empowerment.

The event which took place at the NUJ center in Ilorin yesterday had in attendance Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Ahmed Muhammad, Chief Whip, Hon. Murtar Bajeh, Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Ododo Edoko Moses and other members of the Assembly to witness the auspicious occasion.

In his welcome address, the Chairman Kwara State Correspondent of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Abdulhakeem Garba commended the Speaker for his humility and outstanding performance which made the union to consider him for the award.

He said though the event was held last year during their annual programme but due to the tight schedule of the Speaker he could not attend, noting that it was a great privilege to have him and other members of the Assembly in Kwara for another assignment which availed the opportunity to present the award to him.

He noted with nostalgia the good feedback they got on the activities of the Speaker in his Constituency and the Assembly, stressing that despite the distance, as Journalists they were able to track all he is doing for the overall development of the people.

Responding shortly after receiving the award, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole thanked and appreciated the union for counting him worthy of the honour, promising not to rest in his owls but will continue to do more for the service of his Constituency, Kogi State and humanity at large.

He eulogized Governor Yahaya Bello for creating the enabling environment for the Legislative arm under his leadership to carry out its functions without any impediment. 

He said they were in Ilorin, Kwara State on advocacy visit to their counterparts on the need for the All Progressive Congress (APC) and indeed Nigerians to consider the North Central zone for the position of the President in 2023 and also to woo them in support of Governor Yahaya Bello’s presidential ambition.

Kolawole said he was surprised when his Chief Press Secretary, Femi Olugbemi, informed him of the outstanding award by the Union.

He said he was happy about the recognition in Ilorin where he started his life, had education, got married, stressing that it is a homecoming for him.

He said the award which he dedicated to the 7th Assembly of the Kogi State House of Assembly is dear to him considering the nature of the award and recognition.

The Speaker said Ilorin, Kwara State is his second home, promising to continue to do more for the people and humanity, urging the Journalists to continue to carry out their constitutional duty of balanced reportage to promote healthy society.

He said Governor Yahaya Bello being the youngest Governor in the country coupled with his performance in the area of security, health, education, infrastructures, youths and women  inclusion in governance is able and capable to lead the Nigeria hence the Kogi Assembly’s national tour to canvass support for his presidential ambition.

Other members present at the occasion includes, Hon. Alfa Momoh Rabiu, Hon. Ademola Bello, Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas Atabor and Hon. Akande Oke Moses
