The Kogi state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has passed a vote of no confidence in the ability of the Nigeria security agencies in the state to protect its members.
In a statement signed by the Acting Chairman of the party in Kogi State, Alh. Mouktar Atimah, the party stated that security agencies in the state has failed to address the various complaints the party has availed the Force as it affects safety of members of SDP in Kogi Central.
It stated further that the reason for the current stand of the party was as a result of the abduction of one of her members, Friday Ovoro from his house in the early hours of 23rd January, 2019 by unknown abductors who were dressed in military uniforms who stormed his residence, Ohueta, Okehi local government area of Kogi State.
Atimah said since the abduction of Ovoro, there has been no information about his whereabouts.
“Despite our complain to the security authorities, we cannot locate where he is being detained. This calls for concern.
“It will be recalled that we have been shouting that the state government is planning to indict our senatorial candidate for Kogi central, Barr. Natasha H. Akpoti on trumped up charges relating to gunrunning and murder.
“We have also made it known that the present government through the administrators of Okehi and Adavi LG and the former LG Chairman of Okene are in possession of fake military uniforms and firearms which they want to use to implicate Barr. Natasha H. Akpoti for the alleged charges.
“Information reaching us makes us scared about the whereabouts of Mr. Friday Ovoro as to the true identities of his abductors. We have all reasons to believe that they want to torture Mr Friday to force him to confess the spurious allegation against Barr Natasha H. Akpoti.
“It will interest the general public to note that we notified the police when military uniforms and weapons were being off loaded into the house of a serving commissioner in Ihima. When there was tension in Ohueta, we equally informed security agencies to take proactive steps to forestall the crisis.
“We use this medium to call on the higher security authorities to wade into the impending crisis in Kogi Central and also demanding immediate release of Mr. Friday Ovoro,” he said.
