The Court of Appeal, Abuja, has dismissed an appeal filed by Chief Benson Omofe, to restrain the Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from filling the position of the Zonal Chairman for Kogi West Senatorial District.

The Appeal Panel, who commended Barr John Mark, the defense counsel of the Peoples Democratic Party and Richard Akanmode, noted that the counsel articulated his position convincingly, thereby rendering the appeal unsuccessful.

The Judges, therefore, upheld the judgment of the High Court, Kabba, which had earlier declined jurisdiction in the matter, on the ground that it was the preserve of the party to choose its leaders.

The latest judgment has again laid to rest the contention by Omofe to abort the process initiated by the leaders of the party to regularise the nomination of the replacement for the late Barrister Taiwo Kola-Ojo, who held the position until his demise in January 2020.

Kogi West remains the stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State. Analysts believe that with this judgment the leaders in the senatorial district can implement the decision of the lower court to resolve the issue and return the administration of the party in the zone to normalcy.
