The founder of Tiny Beating Heart Initiative (TBHI), Petra Akinti Onyegbule, made this appeal during event in Lokoja to mark this year’s World Premature Babies Day.

A premature baby is one who is born too early, before 37 weeks gestational age. These babies are known as preemies or premmies.

Petra, who is also the Chief Press Secretary to Kogi State Governor, said babies born premature are special gifts to their parents and enjoined members of the public to ensure that they contribute their quota in ensuring that such children are given the attention required.

She described premature babies as rubies to be cherished and promised to establish a support group that would help in educating women in the grassroots across Kogi state.

Issues relating to the plights of premature babies and the challenges they go through were brought to the fore at the event. President of Medical Women Association, Kogi State Chapter, Mrs. Medupin, presented a lecture on how to cater for premature babies.
