The Kogi State government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Rich Field Group to construct over 10,000 houses in its effort to address housing deficit in the state.
The General Manager, Kogi Investment and Properties Limited, Moses Ado Okino, who signed on behalf of the state government yesterday, said, Nigeria at the moment has a housing deficit of about 17 million.
He said it requires the intervention of the private sector for government to effectively bridge the gap. According to him, the state governor, Idris Wada, has already directed that over 200 hectares of land be made available to the group for the commencement of the housing project so to reduce the hardship faced by the people.
Okino said his agency was already building additional 350 houses which he said have reached advanced stage, adding that the houses when completed would be sold to civil servants and private individuals.
Earlier, the Group Managing Director of Rich Field groups, Donald Peterson, said they had already secured funds for the execution of the project.
He said they have been into the construction of quality and affordable houses for the people for some time now and appealed to the government to expedite action on the allocation of land.
