The Kogi State Government has become worried over a routine activity by “Nigeria Politics Today,” a Facebook page posting quotes allegedly made by the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, which have repeatedly put the spokespersons of the government on the side of denial.
Recall that in the recent political wranglings of Lagos State, Governor Bello was alleged by the same page to have made a hit on his colleague, Akinwunmi Ambode, an allegation which was swiftly denied by Bello’s media aides.
However, the page may have become unrepentant, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Petra Akinti Onyegbule has this to say;
“I have observed that there is a Facebook Page ‘Nigeria Politics Today’ which routinely conjures quotes and accredits them to His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello.
“The latest is this,
“Atiku is not a politician and I keep wondering why the PDP jubilating over his victory at their primary election. If I flag APGA, I will defeat Atiku Abubakar very easily in all the states of the federation -Governor Yahaya Bello”
“The above is not only false, Governor Bello has not made any statement on the PDP nor its presidential candidate,” she stated.
For her, the public owes it a duty in the era of liberalised press to verify information before dissemination.
She said she had reported to the Nigerian Police Force, and awaiting their response, while also giving the Administrator of the page an ultimatum to take down the posts.
