Kogi Government Urges Northern Governors, Elders To Tackle Cattle Rearers, Farmers Clashes

Kogi State Government has called on northern governors, elders and other relevant stakeholders to Work together and proffer Solution to the recurrent clashes of the cattle rearers and the farmers in the Northern part of the country.
The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Elder Simon Achuba who made the call on behalf of the government when leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) paid him a courtesy call in his office today, said the region required a remodeling of cattle to avoid the frequent clashes with other farmers in the area.
In the statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Akor Sylvester, the Deputy Governor wondered why the Fulani helmsmen  and farmers clashes persist in the region and no end in sight to the crisis, charging the Northern Governors, elders and other relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the problem in the area.
He said the method of approach applied by other governments of the continent in ensuring peace between the cattle rearers and farmers must be adopted in the area for peaceful coexistence, maintaining that development cannot strive in the atmosphere of crisis.
The Deputy Governor used the occasion to commend the officers and men of the Civil Defence Corps over their steady intelligent reports to the State executive, stating that such briefings have helped in controlling crime in the state.
He encouraged the security body to continue assisting the government in bringing the activities of criminals to a stop, maintaining that, the present administration of the state led by Governor Yahaya Bello has no place for crime and criminality.
The Deputy Governor, while stating that the state shared boundaries with about ten states, including Federal Capital Territory, said some states have taken carrier in harvesting God-given Solid Minerals ofKogi state without permission.
He therefore called on officers and men of the Corps to assist in that aspect by policing the solid minerals at all times, stating that such would curb the ugly situation.
Speaking, the zonal commander, ACG Lugard Osaro Osewinge said he and his men were in the state on a 2-day working visit in order to be familiar with the security issues in the area and fashion way out of the challenges.
Nothing that Kogi state is one of the highest producers of solid minerals in the country,  the zonal commander said his men were ready to tackle illegal mining in the state.
He commended the present administration of the state led by Governor Yahaya Bello for donating 10 hilux vehicles to the Corps, assuring that his men would put in their best in the area of fighting crime and criminality in the state.
